Monster of the deep, the lion's mane jellyfish is the largest known jelly in the world. The lion's mane thrives in cold northern seas and can reach a bell size of over 2 m (7+ ft). While they can be found in more southern parts of the Pacific and Atlantic, they really large, vibrantly coloured specimens favour the far north. The long trailing tentacles, which deliver a painful but not usually deadly sting (to humans), can stretch 37m long. Lion's mane jellies are often spotted in my home waters of the Pacific Northwest, and this print commemorates my fascination with these undulating "sea lions".
