By mid-August, I have generally lost patience with summer. Bring on the mushrooms, the turning leaves, the salmon swimming upstream. Autumn is my favourite season, in all its iterations - crisp weather, sweaters and rubber boots, and the glow of candles to keep the quickening dark away. The light is richer and the landscape renewed after the heat of summer. This painting is a little tribute to riding into fall eagerly, embracing how nature is both renewed and prepping to put itself to bed soon.
